you know who you are

photographers-Your photos are undersaturated, or poorly exposed and compositionally, unsound, and you need to learn to sort through them. Just because you fired the shutter does not mean you have to share it, and screw your snapshots. On average, of every 100 frames i shoot, i will share, maybe, 1, learn to do the same. The average person looking at your art will spend 3 seconds looking at your page, if their are no compelling images seen in that 3 seconds, the person will leave. This is not directed at those starting out in photography, I know how difficult it is to learn some of the ropes, hell, i'm still pushing myself to do better.

also, I do not give two shits about your dog, your cat, etc. If you are able to get a photo that has artistic merit, good for you, I'll be happy to look at it, but I don't want or care to see your snapshot of little fluffy looking at you. Also, just because your significant other says you can photograph them naked does not mean you need to post your borderline pornographic images here. Go through the works of Man Ray, Joel-Peter Witking, Maplethorpe, and many others, see what ARTISTIC NUDE means, and then re-approach the subject, otherwise, all you are doing is making work that will, quite possibly, come back and bight your significant other in the ass years from now when it ends up as blackmail material.

Manga, cosplay, and and furry artists- co-opting a style does not make it your style. For those of you who pursue manga art, the only thing it says to me is you lack enough original thought to develop your own style, thus, if you lack the original thought to have your own style, you lack having anything to say that I am willing to listen to. Furry artists and those of you who take pop-culture characters and draw them nude and post them here... the only thing you are succeeding in doing is advertising your desperation and sexual frustration. A portfolio of such work is not going to get you laid, a job (in fact, it can prevent you from getting a job), and is liable to make you the butt of jokes between two friends who know what it is to spend hours, if not days, on an art piece. Cosplay? For the love of god, realize that you have the ability to be an interesting person without donning the persona of a fictional character or, if you MUST do so, atleast build the character yourself (and no, wearing a pair of fake cat ears do not qualify). If you are into cosplay, to each his own, we all have our eccentricities, but for some reason, a picture of you dressed up as naruto or some other equally bad anime character doesn't strike me as compelling art. Now, if you detail how you created the pattern, from which you have sewn your costume, I'll cut you some slack, but if you are able to do that, make some interesting dresses, suits, clothing, or, at the very least, redesign some straight jackets, at least then you will have put some ORIGINAL THOUGHT into it.

Sad thing is? the people i want to read this, never will, and those who do read this (if there are any of you left), are liable to agree with me, and are exempt from this brow beating anyway. Son of a bitch

i know this hurts, it was meant to.
So i think i'm going to be in billings this weekend and possibly the next as well (working on transferring crap to billings from missoula) so we should hang out at some point.
I can tell you about the circus characters then, or write up a little silly journal on here about them if you'd prefer.

Thanks for the +fav!
PS: thanks for faving the circus characters. let me know what you think of 'em. i can go on a ridiculous conceptual detail for them if you want me to, but i figure it's better to take what you want from them than force my view on people :)

I feel dirty, but yes, I have returned. I realized that, while deviant art is far from the best forum for art, it does a better job than myspace. As for your pieces, i really like them, the colour, the obvious patience that went into creating them, etc. As for the ridiculous details you can provide on the concept, I would love to hear them, I always like learning more how various people's minds work. Hope you are well.
